NBB Completes Phase B of Green Up Project
The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) recently completed Phase B of the Green Up Project, taking place on the 16thDecember Avenue, which aims to plant trees across the Kingdom in collaboration with CleanUp Bahrain (CUB) and the Southern Area Municipality.
The second phase of the initiative, covering 630 metres in length and set to hold 360 treessaw representatives from NBB, the Southern Area Municipality and CleanUp Bahrain participate in an inauguration ceremony, where they also discussed future opportunities for collaboration, and witnessed each NBB representative planting a tree.
In line with the bank’s ongoing efforts towards the spread of environmental awareness within the Kingdom, NBB provided financial support to plant trees especially suited to Bahrain’s climate and weather. The Project’s upcoming Phase C, set to take place in the same avenue during the first week of December, will encompass 610 metres in length and will be home to 450 trees.
The aim of the project is to promote greener initiatives within the Kingdom to enhance the overall air quality of the country, absorb toxic gases and provide the necessary oxygen requirement. The trees will help absorb approximately 8.5 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide within 5 years, while also mitigating air pollution and improving the overall temperature of the congested area.
Thanking NBB for its tree planting project on the December 16 Highway, The Director-General of Southern Area Municipality, Eng. Assem Abdullatif Abdullah, said: “This pioneering initiative will strengthen the community partnership between the private and public sectors for greener initiatives, one of which is roadside tree planting. This is in line with the Municipality’s strategic objective of enhancing environmental awareness. I would like thank NBB and all involved for their tree planting efforts and I look forward to seeing more environmental collaborations in the future towards a greener Bahrain.”
Commenting on the initiative, Abdulaziz Al-Ahmed, Chief Executive of Strategic Accounts at NBB, said: “As part of NBB’s 3-year sustainability roadmap, we are proud to be contributing to the latest green initiative that will further national environmental preservation efforts outlined in the Kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030. We are eager to support a healthier, cleaner environment, in line with the Kingdom’s goal to achieve zero carbon neutrality by 2060, set by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
NBB’s Group Chief Human Resources & Sustainability Officer, Dana Buheji, added: “NBB aims to enact more eco-friendly projects that promote long-term solutions for our climate. By adapting global conservation guidelines and tailoring them to our requirements, such as selecting trees that are suitable for our country, we are contributing towards a cleaner, greener Bahrain in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.”
Shafi Al Mannai, HR Manager & Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, stated: “We are proud of our contribution towards fostering a greener mind set amongst citizens and residents of the Kingdom. At NBB, we encourage joint efforts that promote a collectively better environment for generations to come.”
The bank continues to partner with local organisations to encourage environmental conservation within the Kingdom while also implementing more sustainable initiatives across the organisation and beyond.
