NBB CEO & Director hosts Darden University Students

Students from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration under the auspices of the University of Virginia visited the National Bank of Bahrain to have a better understanding of how the conventional banking sector in the Kingdom worked. The students were accompanied by Professor Sherwood C.Frey.

The students met with the NBB CEO and Director Mr. Abdul Razak Abdulla Hassan Al Qassim, who welcomed them to NBB and gave them a brief idea of how NBB worked as an organisation. He also spoke about the policies and strategies that were followed by the Bank which made it so successful even during turbulent times. The students then asked Mr. Abdul Razak a wide array of questions pertaining to the banking system prevalent in the Kingdom as well as globally.

Mr. Abdul Razak reminisced about his time as a University student at MIT and the challenges that he had faced at that time. He also spoke about the challenges that students face in the professional environment today.

On being asked about what students should be striving for to ensure a better professional future he said, “Education is the key to success and it does not merely involve university degrees. The quest for knowledge should be an unending one.” He stressed that, “great vision comes from great dreams and it is imperative to pursue one’s dreams irrespective of the hurdles one may face towards their fulfilment. It is extremely important to believe in one’s capabilities and resolute focus in the pursuit of excellence is sure to bring success.”

The students along with Professor Frey thanked the CEO & Director for his valuable advice and presented a small memento as a gesture of their appreciation. On his part, Mr Abdul Razak presented the students with some NBB merchandise along with NBB Annual report for 2009 and a couple of articles that he had authored on the lessons learnt from the financial crisis.
